The Luxor Poker Room

The Luxor: Poker Egyptian Style

Luxor Poker VegasThe Luxor Resort and Casino is probably the most recognizable building on the Las Vegas strip. With the hotel built in the shape of a full size pyramid with a full size Sphinx guarding it, you cannot miss the Egyptian flavor here. The Luxor’s poker card room was rated on of the best in Vegas in 2004 and with the variety of spreads, and stakes it offers its players; it’s also one of the busiest.

The fourteen tables of the Luxor’s poker room – which is actually a partitioned area on the casino game floor closest to the moving walkway leading to the Excalibur – is laid out with plenty of room between the new tables that are branded with the resorts unique logo. Commit lines are very clearly marked and the table have both automatic shufflers and drink holders. Surprisingly enough, the four televisions in the poker room are old-fashioned and not the usually high-definition ones found at some of the other casinos. This could be a very good thing as many players would rather concentrate on their game and not the one taking place next to them.

The dealers at the Luxor cardroom are very good as is the wait staff. Comps at the poker card room include free drinks while playing at the table. Play is average and this is one of the best rooms for beginner players to try their luck. The casino also offers their poker players lessons every afternoon if they are interested in learning more about the game. The room’s location is fairly isolate but it is close to the sports book which occasionally gets a bit rowdy, especially during football season.

Luxor Poker Games

The Luxor’s cardroom spreads Texas Hold’Em games with $1/$2 blinds for the no limit tables with a $50 buy-in. The blinds for the low limit games are $2/$4 and $4/$8 with a maximum rake of $4 or 10%, whichever is lesser. There is one 7 Card Stud table with a blind of $1/$5, but this is one of the few poker card rooms that does not offer Omaha or mixed games. The will spread other games if there is enough call for the variation. Most of the popular games at the tables here are low limit which is why it is very good for the poker player just starting out.

Tournaments on the other hand are very competitive and this is where the experienced player will shine at the Luxor. There are free roll poker tournaments available, but potential players at the Luxor should be aware that they have to have 15 hours of live cash games logged with the management in order to qualify. Daily high hand jackpots are available in denominations of $500, $400, $300, and $100. This is a nice comp if you should happen to have one of the four highest hands during your stay at the casino. Big hand bonuses are paid at $100 for a Royal flush and $20 for four-of-a-kind.

Daily tournaments at the Luxor include a $30, $50 and $62 freeze out, no limit Texas Hold’Em and daily $50 sit and go tournaments whenever there are ten players or more signed up. There is also a bounty tournament on Friday and Saturdays.
