This victory earned him two titles in consecutive years as he won the $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em event at the 2006 World Poker Finals. Additionally, he has cashed in other World Poker Tour (WPT) and WSOP circuit events including his 6th place finish at the December 2007 WSOP Circuit $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em Event, 11th place finish at the 2007 Gulf Coast Poker Championship and 19th place finish at the 2006 United States Poker Championship in Atlantic City, New Jersey. With over $1.2 million in career tournament earnings and 91st finish in 2007 Player of the Year standings, Bernard has established himself as a strong competitor on the tournament circuit. Media Personality: Since September 2005, Bernard has written the Sunday poker column for the Boston Herald, in which he has taken his readers on a weekly venture through the booming world of tournament poker. Revolving around a critical hand, his column gives readers a glimpse into his intense experiences on the tournament poker circuit. Using real life scenarios, he is able to create understandable lessons that poker players can put to use immediately. In April 2006, Bernard proudly joined the ESPN.com Poker website as a regular columnist. In this column, Bernard highlights his experiences as he journeys through the world of satellite and main event tournament poker. For both, he has garnered rave reviews from his readers. Recently, he has also been a guest columnist for several magazines, such as Poker Life and Boston Common. Debuting in May of 2007, Bernard hosts the only poker radio show in the Boston metropolitan area. “The Bernard Lee Poker Show” incorporates interviews with poker guests including well known players and prominent industry personnel. In addition to current poker news and related information, Bernard utilizes calls and e-mails from listeners to discuss poker topics and tips. The Boston market has embraced this much needed program. Previous guests have included Joseph Hachem, Chris Moneymaker, Norman Chad, Phil Hellmuth, Sam Farha, Jack Effel, Kirk Morrison, Bill Edler and Scott Clements. Teacher: Bernard was educated in the New England area (Harvard University, BA, MA; Babson College MBA). In addition to his academic studies, Bernard has truly become a student of poker. By reading a variety of poker books, his wife often jokes that by now he should have a PhD in poker. With his ever increasing knowledge, he brought together two of his passions: poker and teaching. Bernard has extensive experience teaching, as he taught high school and college students for almost 10 years. Pokerwise, Bernard has been teaching poker to private students since 2005, discussing advanced concepts to eager students with the desire to play in larger tournaments such as WPT and WSOP Events. Bernard’s students have been internalizing his training and translating this learning into results on the poker table. At the 2007 Foxwoods Poker Classic, two of Bernard’s students made final tables in two different events: 1st place finish in the $300 Modified No-Limit Hold’em Shoot-out and 7th place finish in the $600 No-Limit Hold’em Event. Based on his innate ability to teach, Bernard caught the attention of the WPT Boot Camp. In early 2007, he was proud to join this elite teaching group as an instructor. Personal: Bernard currently lives just outside of Boston, Massachusetts with his supportive wife of over eleven years and two beautiful children, ages 4 and 2. He also enjoys competing in several sports (e.g. golf, tennis, running). In addition to completing the Boston Marathon in 1999 and 2000, he has been a Boston Celtics season ticket holder since 1997. |
