David Huber

Poker Articles and Poker Columns from David Huber

David Huber grew up in a small town in the state of Texas, where his only experience with poker was nickel and dime stud games against his grandfather.  His background in games came mostly from his father, who taught him how to solve simple mathematical equations at the age of four.

In 1997, at the age of 22, David moved to Mexico to learn Spanish and take some vacation time.  Little did he know he’d be living there over 10 years later.  He has resided in Mexico City since 1998 and volunteered as an English/Spanish language instructor for the Anglo-American Institute until 2003, when his twin sons, Joshua and Kevin, were born.

A respected member of the online poker community, he first got his start in poker playing $5 Sit & Go Tournaments on PartyPoker.  After being a losing player for several months, David finally decided to stop complaining and start applying himself to becoming a winning player.  It was right about that time when he found PlayWinningPoker.com, Poker-Babes.com, and PocketFives.com, three sites which presented information that David could relate to and improve from.

David’s philosophy in poker is to become as technically sound as possible, then worry about the fancy, unorthodox concepts later.  In other words, he believes fundamentals and common sense are 90% of today’s game, with the other 10% being the ability to pay attention.  However, he also concedes that playing “in another zone” is highly profitable for the most part.

Although he has been known to play as many as 20 tables at a time, David has settled into a routine of 10-tabling multi-table tournaments (buy-ins of $30-$75) and cash games ($1/$2 NLHE 6-max), seeing well over 50,000 hands in any given month.  He is a columnist for various poker-related websites and has been the host of the PocketFives.com Podcast since March of 2006.
